Rode 70 miles today. Made it to Geneva, NY and am staying at the Hampton Inn. Nice place. They gave me a reduced rate; $99. I actually enjoyed the ride today. Had a bit of a tailwind (thank you God!) and made good time. The terrain is hilly, but not as bad as Kansas. My butt hurt but wasn't killing me.
After dinner I took a walk in town and found a bike shop. I bought a new saddle, but am taking the old one with me just in case. Larry, if you're reading this it's your fault! It's a B-17 saddle. $75, but they tuned the bike too.
I'm going to go rehydrate my body now. There's a business across the street that specializes in that line of work.

Cascade Camping
This is one of my favorite photos because it captures some of the loneliness of long distance riding. I'm camped at 6,000 feet ASL, about 20 miles west of Crater Lake. There was a thunderstorm that night; just the thing to make you feel tiny!

Riders in Bird City, Kansas
I met three intrepid guys riding from Athens, Ohio to Oregon. We shared stories for a few minutes and then were on our way.

At one point I stopped here and laid down on a 2'x7' grave stone and fell asleep. I'm not very supersitious.
The Only Flat Land in Kansas
Kansas is just one hill after another! So I took a picture of the only flat spot I saw, a few miles south of Phillipsburg on Route 183.
Grain Silos in Anton
The silos were humungous. Trucks looked tiny compared to them. This was across the street from my camp site.
Painted Rock
On East bound 80, just outside of Salt Lake City, you can glimpse this rock decorated by young men showing off to their women.

Flat Land Stream
Kansas is anything but flat. This is about as close as it gets. The road starts a steep climb 1/2 mile to the south of where this picture this was taken.
Limestone Water Tower
This tower was built in 1938 by the WPA. Note the flags: the wind is quite strong. Of course I was headed right into it.

After harvesting their wheat, farmers burn the stubble, fertilizing the land and killing pests in one fell swoop.

I was having a late lunch at the Burger King in Canandaigua when you stopped there and had a conversation with an older couple about your ride across the country to promote awareness about Parkinson's. I thought it was quite a coincidence to see you there and hear about your personal challenge to ride coast to coast while you can because there was an article in our local paper on Wednesday about a Parkinson's support group that had formed here for those with the disease and those who are their caregivers.
